Antitempo, an audiovisual work by The Force, is a choreography for forty-two moving lasers, precisely synchronized with sound. I was invited to develop the control system, the soundtrack and the lighting programming for the piece.
The software I built makes it possible to control all of the equipment at once through equations and mathematical patterns. It is a highly complex structure, but designed to be very simple to use. The result is a set of geometries that seem to bend and shift the space itself. The music begins as texture and gradually becomes more rhythmic, more melodic, more insistently musical. At times it follows the movement of the lasers; at others, the lasers seem to follow the music.
