Moiré is an optical effect that appears when two regular patterns, lines, grids, dots, are layered with slight offsets. Distortions, ripples and unexpected textures start to emerge.
In this piece, I recreate that effect through sound using two computer-controlled grand pianos. Placed to the left and right of the stage and audience, like an acoustic stereo setup, they play the same patterns with small shifts between them. Those tiny misalignments bring the structure of the music to the surface and make the mathematical logic of the piece audible.
The whole work revolves around doubling. Not only between the two pianos, but also between sound and image, and between the acoustic and the digital.
