The works in the Mono series can look like paintings made by hand, as both gesture and texture can be seen. But they do not come from any manual process. They are the result of a digital procedure built around the accumulation of calculation errors.
The process starts with two simple images, each made of black lines on a white background, generated by an algorithm. Even though they are independent and unrelated, the computer tries to calculate the movement from one to the other, producing smears and artifacts. That result is then fed back into the process, and once again the system tries to find a movement that does not really exist. Little by little, those failures pile up, generating images that become denser and more organic.
